Henk Jan Kamerbeek was born on august 13 1958, in Veldhoven, The Netherlands.
From early childhood Kamerbeek found himself drawn to the arts. His fathers record collection being the first thing that fascinated him, he became an enthusiastic though, self confessed, mediocre bass player. But he could also be found with easel and brushes in the fields and woods of the Dutch province Limburg.
Later at art school in Eindhoven, now known as the Design Academy, he discovered photography as a medium, but he became a real enthusiast during his apprenticeship with photographer Hans Werlemann who, at that time, was working almost exclusively for Rem Koolhaas.
With a characteristic mix of enthusiasm and youthful recklessness, he left school and started his own business as a photographer. The biggest problem being that he had slightly forgotten to acquire the necessary craftsmanship. So in the years that followed he had a lot of painful catching up to do. But over time he has turned into a professional with a fine clientele.
